It has been a roller coaster week for Ryan. He has beaten all odds so far. The Drs. are stunned that he is even alive. Since the last write up, he has had emergency surgery to remove a blockage from his stomach. He was not expected to survive the surgery due to his weaken condition. Though it was touch and go for a while, he did make it. Due to his other issues it has been very difficult to treat him. He has blood in his urine, as you can see in the above pictures on the catheter his has in his penis. He also has an infection going on his body as well as liver problems and his esophagus is totally raw and burned due to the acid reflux from his blockage. On top of it he is skin and bones. He could not eat on his own or eat at all until we could get the esophagus in better condition, so he was fed via IV. Two days after surgery he had to have a plasma transfusion to keep him going. Through it all this little precious boy continued fighting. Pugs 'N Pals volunteers visited him daily to give him love and encouragement. The pictures above were taken 5 days after surgery and as you can see was standing on his own for the first time. Since then we have been treating him daily with medication and hand feeding him 5 times a day, until his system can handle digesting the food. He has had a battery of test which shows that it appears he has a liver shunt, a very serious condition. This is on top of his blockage and all the other things going on. Once we get him stronger, he will have a Nuclear Imaging test to see how many shunts and what type, as some are operable and some are not. If it is operable we will go ahead and perform this very risky and expensive surgery. Without this surgery we will not be able to recuperate. We are doing everything we possible can to save this precious boy's life. He is very loving and very grateful for all the love and care he has been receiving. All the Vets and people that have been caring for him are rooting for him and truly in love with him. We ask you to please continue praying for Ryan and to help with any donations you can so we can do everything he needs to get better. Now that Vets got to evaluate him better they have told us that he is only 1-2 yrs. old. So he has a long life again of him. PLEASE RALLY FOR RYAN!!!
Thank you very much for your love and support

Ryan: June, 2007
Hello friends! I have been too sick to write to you, so my foster Mommy has been doing it for me. I am much better now. After only 3 weeks you can see the difference, these pictures were taken in June. I am gaining weight and I am a very adorable happy guy. Very grateful to Pungs 'N Pals for putting such effort towards saving my life. I still have a long way to go, but I am improving daily. I go to the Vets every week for tests and they are stunned that I look so good and that I am even alive!
July Update
Hi again! I have so far gained 8 lbs. and believe it or not I am still thin! I have been doing well, but my liver values are now dropping so the Vets feel that I need the liver shunt surgery sooner than expected. They want me to be as strong as possible, as it is a very risky surgery. Pugs 'N Pals was hoping for more time to raise more money to be able to have the surgery, but I can't wait much longer. I am going in for a Nuclear Imaging test to make sure the liver shunt is operable.
Hello! I had the nuclear imaging test and I do have an operable shunt so that is good, it means that I have a good chance of making it assuming all goes well. My Mommy seems very upset about my surgery. I keep telling her I am strong and that I have pulled through so far and I will do well, but you know Mommies, their job is to worry.
I am scheduled for my shunt surgery in August, so hopefully I will be back to the computer soon and tell you all about it. If not, my Foster Mommy will give you updates.
Thank you all for your support and prayers. Please continue to help Pugs 'N Pals with donations, they are doing such a good job at caring for me, but unfortunately I am an expensive little guy! Hope to talk to you all soon!
Love Ryan
